View Full Version : Is there a weight limit for this piercing?

I know that a belly ring probably looks better with skinnier girls and I've had mine done for years now. But my friend (who is on the heavier side) wants to get hers done. She's not afraid of how it will look, just wants one. Will she have trouble finding someone to pierce her or will it not matter as long as she's old enough?
Thanks for the input!

As long as she's old enough she'll have no problem.
If she's comfortable with herself and wants it, there's no reason why she shouldn't, and piercers aren't so caught up in fashion and such that they'll refuse her on the basis of weight.

She's so happy and can't wait to go get it done ASAP. Thanks for the response.

Weight (in terms of how someone looks) should never be a factor for any piercer. Personally, I love seeing heavier-set people with pierced navels-- it shows comfort in their bodies. If they love themselves enough to place a piercing to be cared for in the skin, then I say more power to them! :)

just gotta ditto 'bird here...if you want it, go for it. you don't have to be 13 and look like a stick to have a piercing. there's no weight limit or age limit. the sky is the limit, if you're comfortable with your own body!

I WANT TO. This and this alone should be the one and ONLY reason to be pierced, inked, beaded, or modded in any manner. Age or size of your canvas doesn't matter.

As a "Rubenesque" woman, I want to throw my $.02 in here. As most of you know, I beleive 100% in loving yourself no matter how you look. I also see and use body mod as a decoration and celebration of the body. While there should never be a limit placed on a piercing just becuase of what society has deemed to be "beautiful", there are some piercings that can be adversly affected by being overweight.
I will use myself as an example. While I would love to have a navel piercing, I honestly feel that my body would make it rather difficult to heal and would absolutely make it more prone to migration/rejection. Becuase of the way my stomach folds, my navel is not visible while I am sitting. Therefore, my piercing would be suffocated for most of the day, with a lot of pressure being put on it.
So, purely in a "medical" sense, I would not be a good person to get this piercing. I do not mean this as any sort of discouragement, it's just a little bit of reality from someone that is overweight. If someone is willing to be a little bit more patient and understand that they may not have as easy of a time healing, then I say go for it!

Yeh. If anyone ever tells you that you have to be 5'11" and 90 pounds to get a navel piercing, then send them to me, and I will kick them for you.
I try to love my body, but it's difficult for me. My mods help me achieve this goal.

How true blackbird. Most people have at least some trouble loving their bodies. If anyone wants to do something that makes them feel better and more comfortable with their bodies, whether that be working out, piercings, tattoos, etc. , then I strongly encourage them to do it.

I agree with Becca. She said it a lot better than I was going to. I was just going to say, no there's no weight limit but being overweight will make having one suck. See she said it better. :P I don't think that means someone shouldn't get one, just that it may not be a party in their navel for awhile.

....if I had a party in my navel, I'd hope that there was great music.

I met a girl in my Amer. Lit class who weighs 203 lbs...her navel is pierced. She loves it. And she rocks hard. :)

I wasn't saying that there is anything wrong with it or that everyone that is overweight would have a problem. What I was saying was that there are some people for whom the extra weight would cause problems, myself included. A navel piercing would be very uncomfortable for me. That's just the way my body is.
Do I hate my body? Nah. Do I think it would look bad. Not really. Do I think that my weight would cause problems with healing, comfort and chances of migration? Definitely.
So, please don't misunderstand me. I just think it is not fair to not be realistic about these things or not give people all of the information, not just the fun, happy stuff.

Yeh, I'm with that. Like, some people who have a bit more flesh around their navel area.
I'm one of those people that could never have a navel piercing...I'd forget about it, go to do something, and rip the poor thing out.

I kind of had the opposite problem when I got my navel pierced. I was lying there and my piercer was messing around down there trying to get the clamp on. Then he's like, "I need you to stand up for a second. Your stomache's to flat." So I stood up. Then he grunts and says, "Your belly's still flat." I told him sorry. What else was I supposed to say? But he eventually got it.

«grumbles nasty things about flat-stomached people»Genitics, sweetie, pure genitics. If you want a long healthy life and have a svelte body, you have to pick the correct parents. I've been tall and thin (spelled s*k*i*n*n*y) all my life. Well, my tour of duty in the Army put some pounds on my frame, but they were strategic, muscle pounds. After I got out, back to 140. I can eat like a horse and not gain an ounce. That bothers me sometimes. You HAVE to get comfortable with yourself. That Barbie Doll mindset is c*r*a*p!!!

I know, I sidestepped the auto censor here, but it was the cleanest word I could think of and still get my point across. Sorry

I wish I could lose weight so that my super muscles showed up.
I also seriously need to find someplace to rollerblade.
I was ready to die this afternoon because my legs were aching, but there is no where to go that I know of and no one can even suggest places to me. So instead I slept for 3 hours.
