It was 40 years ago today at 1:00pm that a great man was murdered.

Che Guevara was captured in Bolivia on October 8 1967 and summarily executed at 1:00pm local time October 9, 1967.

I wept then and I mourn today. I remember this happening and seeing the pictures of his body being displayed.

So if you don't mind, I'm taking a moment of silence to pay my respects.

I have an uncle that joined up with him in Mexico City in the 50s.

At least, I had an uncle. No one ever heard from him again.

I was 16 years old and very impressionable when this happened. Had a motorcycle (Triumph Tiger Cub) and wanted to do the "grand tour" like Che had done just a year or two before (read "The Motorcycle Diaries")

The Summer of Love and Hippie Movenment was in full swing in California.

The Vietnam War was sending my neighborhood kids and friends home in aluminum boxes by the dozens. There were Draft Card Burning Parties all over.

Folks like the Weathermen were organizing.

Watts in California, Newark N.J, Detroit were at their boiling points and riots were breaking out in major cities over substandard living and repressive conditions. (I lived in Detroit and was arrested for breaking the dusk to dawn curfew. I was at a friends house 2 blocks away and was walking home)

Sigh. You should try to find out more about your Uncle.

I miss the "Good Ol' Days".
