I was bored, so I took some of the Narra Burl I have and made some pretty spiffy Teardrop plugs. I love them. Opinions? Size is 5/8

Also pictured is my newly stretched 6g conchs w/ Titanium Plugs w/ Real Black Onyx Settings.
Sorry about my plethora of new posts, I've been in a really creative mood!

wow nice! I saw that shape on ebay and thought about getting them. It's nice to see them on an actual ear rather than just the piece. I like! Have you been able to make inlays? Ebony on the outside and some sort of tiger wood on the inside? Would be interesting to see an inlay tear drop.

*shudders* Ugh. Ebay jewelry.
Chris, those look wonderful!
I've always wanted a pair of Narra Burl (too bad I'm a poor college kid)!
I like how they kinda match your beard, too...

Those are pretty wicked! How long did they take you to make, and how hard was it?

I know I know, but there are a few sellers out there that are pretty good. I usually get my stuff from 1 or 2 people. And I'm not sure if you've heard of them but Omerica has started selling stuff on ebay as well.

Inlays are simple. But it would be a sin to cover up the grain of the Narra Burl. Thank you everyone.
They took only about 20min to make from start to finish. I drew the shape, cut it out on the bandsaw and made the flares with the rounded part of my belt sander. Then rounded everything out by handsanding. Finishing everything at 1000grit and coating in Jojoba oil.

Hey! It's a start! Now all you need are a ton of tools!

Well, not really a ton of tools. You could get away with a Dremel, a scroll saw and sandpaper. That is all I use when I customize knife handles. Buy a blade blank and put my own handles on it. My personal favorite is Corian. I bet a set of Corian plugs would look great. I have some hunter orange Corian in my knife tool box. Hmmm........

My gf's aunt gave me a HUGE chunk of petrified wood. I'm considering turning that pretty soon. Also in the works is REAL Ivory teardrops. Yes I know Ivory is illegal in America. Sue me! haha

Let me know what kind of jewelry you make out of that wood, and as for the ivory goes, I am kind of a enviromental kind of person so don't even bring that in here.

As long as the animal wasn't killed specifically for the ivory (i.e., I know that some organics companies use ivory off of animals that were already dead) I'm all right with it.
It all depends on WHERE and HOW the material as obtained.

Don't get your knickers in a bunch Naemon. The Ivory was purchased in the early 60's and is part of a Virgin Mary figurine I picked up at a thrift store. So yes, it is technically legal. I'm an atheist so don't get on me about carving up Mary. I assume you wear horn or bone, how different is wearing Ivory? I highly doubt all the buffalo horn used was "kosher."

I am Agnostic, but I wasn't sure of your source, and I was in kind of a bad mood so forgive me for snapping like that.

I figured as much, given your current situation and all. Keep your head up man.
