What you're speaking of sounds to me like an Ink Rubbing.
Basically, this is a scarification done, and then once the cuts are in the skin, ink is literally rubbed into the wounds.
As for the ink staying long, that all depends on a few things, like:
-How deep the cuts are
-If your body rejects the ink (mine does incredibly quickly, so I'd have zero luck)
-If the ink is all right to use in the body
-Color of the ink
-How you heal the scarification
It's actually a rather simple addition to a scarification, although it can be painful.
Once the cuts are made, a thick layer of ink is spread over the cuts, so that it sinks into the wound.
The ink does, however, need to be somewhat thick...runny ink like one would find in a fountain pen is NOT suitable! Also, it's not very sanitary.
So I DO NOT suggest breaking open a ball point or gel pen (or a sharpie, I've heard of that as well) to use the ink from there.
The only thing about an ink rubbing is that some or all of the ink may reject or simply just be assimilated into your body, and then just fade away.
A (professional) tattoo is different in this way, because ink is pushed beneath a certain layer of skin to where it stays. This is why non-pro tattoos are prone to fading over time, and the same goes for a scarification/ink rubbing.
Hope this helped...

Yea mosta what you said was the same as what my tattoo'r did too. *As for the depth of the cut, will a deeper one hold ink better? *What colors do you think would stay? I was thinking of a deep, dark red. I take ink pretty easy, got 5 tats so far. *And if my tattoo decided to break out a sharpie for the ink id smack him upside his CENSORd head * * How would you heal a proffesionaly done scar job.

your artist should know how deep to do it. *it needs to be just deep enough without being too deep. *if it's too deep, the ink will go into your blood stream, and you most certainly don't want that.

i was thinking of doing something similar but not ink rubbing. i was thinking of have a skin removal and after it was all healed i was going to get the outline of it tat'd. i was just wondering if the scarred skin would take the ink.

It should, but it depends on the way your skin scars. *It may be more painful to tattoo because of the scars, but it should be fine. *You'll want to consult with your tattoo artist before the scarification, of course.

You may want to check with the tattoo artist before you get the scars done.
There is a lady who had massive scarring on her arm and back due to a childhood injury who got the outline of her scars tattooed to bring them out more (she's very proud....massive kudos to her!), and she said that it hurts more, but it looks great.
