chlorine? Posted: Yesterday at 11:06 pm *

Ok, so I'm all set to get my two surface piercings in a few days, when all of a sudden I get offered a lifeguarding job for the summer. My questions are: how long does a surface piercing normally take to heal? And once it is healed, what about swimming? Chlorine just doesn't sound too great for any piercing. I might get them for two months anyways. I will have to take them out because it is a Girl Scout camp, and I don't think the advisors will allow such a thing on breasts

Are you sure you want to get a surface piercing for only two months? *It seems to me that you'd be much better getting them done after the camp is over... Especially since they're on your breasts, and could very likely leave scars. *

Chlorine (and pools, especially ones with lots of people) is bad for piercings...the chlorine will dry it, but the pool itself will be filled with all kinds of nasty things that will get into your piercing and cause all kinds of trouble if they aren't healed.

I figured about that much for the pool germs...but I really, really, really, REALLY want them! I've been researching this for over a month! Grr...either way I would have to take them out because that wouldn't be a good "role model" for the girls. I'm keeping my tongue ring though!!!!

if you waited until after it was done to get them, you wouldn't have to take them out...correct?

clorine + surface piercing = VERY BAD ... trust me iv seen the results ... one of my friends went swimming with a healing nape and it caused it to swell up enough to pop both balls of the PTFE barbell and for the swollen skin to heal over the bar

Ria, correct. I think I'm going to wait until after I get back from camp. I have to wait longer now...makes me want to cry *

Tom, ewwww. I definitely don't want that!

at the very least, you'd have a high chance of getting the BUMP on your piercings...at most, you'd get an infection and lose your piercings.

i know how you feel having to wait...it sucks. *but at least this way you can keep it longer than 2 months!!!

Very true. I'm so sad...I was going to get them done tonight * *Instead I saw a movie...better, but not fulfilling. **sigh**

You could always get something else to tide you over...something with a short healing time, or play piercings or ink!!!

I didn't even know about play piercings until I saw bird's pic when I first joined this lovely forum. I was like...what the heck is that???????? It does look really awesome, but I couldn't handle much. I think I'll post in another category so we don't get OT!

Ah *I like going swimming but just got my sternum pierced and didn't realise that clorine would be so bad for a surface piercing. * *:(

I think I'll start back swimming next week and take my chances. *Maybe it is a bad idea but it didn't seem to effect my last surface piercings on my chest. *I think I'l take my chances.
