I just got my tongue pierced on Friday (2 days ago). I love it, but its still swollen and its really hard for me to eat anything. My food intake consists of ice pops, ice cubes, and cold apple juice and water. I've tried eating soft bread, and other things that aren't crunchy or hard, but my tongue is still hurting. It only hurts around the piercing... how long until that pain and the swelling will go away and I can eat normal again?
* ... hopefully soon, because I'm starving! ... *:(

It could take a week or two. *Take ibuprophen/advil every 4-6 hours to help with the pain and the swelling.
Congrats and good luck!

Ria is right.
My tongue took only a few days for the swelling to go down. *After about another week to ten days the barbell that is longer than normal ones--to compensate for swelling,--will begin to feel to big. *At that point change it. Don't touch it with your hands, and aviod playing with it until it heals a little more.

Note: at that point you should go back to your piercer to have them change it.
And I'm Ria, not Bird.

so when the jewelry starts to feel big after the swelling has gone done, then go to the piercer and have them change it? I think they told me to come back in 3-4 weeks. Does that sound right?

So sorry Ria, ithad been a long weekend when i posted that bit, please forgive me.
Yes you should go back to your piercer, either they will change it, or most likely they will teach you how to change it. *During the time you wait i cannot stress how important it is for you to LEAVE IT ALONE. I know that it is tempting to click it or whatever, but just don't, all that extra attention to an already irritated area is not good for it.

yeah, between 2-4 weeks to change it is fine.

No worries guys, I haven't been playing with it. My piercer stressed not to do that, so I've been good and haven't done it. Plus its kind of hard for me to do it anyway, because she had to pierce my tongue at an angle because I have a shorter tongue. I've heard both good and bad things about that... what do you think?
Thanks for the tips on when to go to the piercer again, too. :)

tongue piercings are almost never straight, so that's quite normal. *they do that to provide the best placement in your mouth without hitting any major veins.
