View Full Version : Transverse lobe - DIY jobbie
im ready for my next DIY ( do it yourself - u guys rnt familiar witht hat phrase across the pond i dont think )
anyway, ive been staring int he mirror with a ring attachesdd to my lobe debating weather to go for a standard lobe or not. i dont think i suite it that well and my girlfriend hummed and harred about it lol
so feeling inspired by [EDIT] and other galleries. im going to try a transverse lobe. the holes will be quite close, 14g needle with 16g slightly curved barbell about 10mm in length
ive figured this isnt going to be easy to get right... so whats the worst that can happen... if i screw it up, i can just not put anything in it and cvall it a day, it will heal within days... right ? lol
ive still got other pics promised so ill deffo get off my bum and get them all posted including this one

Firstly, "DIY" is a common abreviation used world-wide...if you take a look around the site, it's used frequently, including in our knowledge base. *
Secondly, it's dangerous to even consider doing a transverse lobe yourself. *This is an incredibly hard piercing even for well trained professionals, and I recommend seeking one of said professionals if you want this piercing.
What's the worst that can happen? *Major trauma to your ear, excessive pain, excessive scarring, a lot of tissue damage, and a horrible piercing / experience.
the DIY was a light hearted joke, just some of my friends from ever seas i have to explain the term - my bad
ive seen alot of these piercings, some seem VERY long traveling a great distance through the tissue, im after quite a shallow one
heres a diagram of what i want to do. its not the best of pictures, but ive put a red line around the lobe, and the rest is obvious

as you can see it is quite shallow, and ive seen alot of thewse at this kind of depth as well as other really deep ones
i appreiciate why this is a tricky piercing, iv already used the blunt end of an old needle to see if i can line it up properly and it seems okay
say if i do make a mistake, i abviously wont put any jewelry in, ill just take the needle out and call it a day after washing it of course. this wont leave really bad scaring or ear trauma ?

Wow. That is dangerously shallow. If you were to do that, consider it a temporary piericng and one that will have a very high chance of ripping through the tissue or rejecting.
::( this isnt looking good
that pic is oo shallow isnt it :(
i could do it deeper
the problem is i just dont suite a standard lobe piercing
i might pop down to the studio i frequent and get advice on it. ill pobobly end up getting it done professionaly
or at least checking if i can acctualy get it done
the only problem is i want to do it my self because i ove the feeling of doing it. its just not the same as someone else ding it
thanks !

p.s ill make a new photo and do some measurments too... my mirror will break if i look in it any more lol !

I'm all for DIY piercings, and I respect the fact that you want to do your own piercing...but I'd suggest doing a less complicated piercing instead, and getting this one professionally done. *Transverse lobes are hard even for many seasoned professionals, so it's going to be pretty much impossible for you, especially since it's going to be hard to see what you're doing, and you'll have to go very slowly if you want it to come out right. *
Honestly, you need to pick a different piercing to DIY...and get this one done by a pro.
the thing is, i know you are right !! lol
ive just spent the last hour suitting with my friend, a pen, and the blunt end of a needle doing more target practice. and im confident that i can do it. but i know for sure it IS tricky and i havnt got the experience. :(
on the other hand ( no pun intended) my hands are very steady and without soundin bigheaded,i am very accurate with my hands after years of sculpting and modeling
i rang the place i got my others done, and it will cost me £25 :'( this is wayyy more than i expected.
i might make an ear, and cast it in latex and play voodoo with old needles lol .
thanks for the input
may not have any news by the time this thread dies but ill let uz know of any progress

Just remember that piercing a cast model is going to be completely different than doing it on your own ear.
Different perspective, angles, leverage and feel to the tissue.

This is definately a tricky piercing and if you look in the gallery you'll see one ( done by a pro) that went wrong. It's been said over and over again, don't do this particular piercing yourself, and I think that's more than 100% right. Please, for the sake of your innocent little ear, get it done professionally even if it means waiting and saving the cash up for it.
arghhh **** it !
youve talked me out of it lol. i know its right though
*saves money*
i have every confidence in the piercer who will do it. he is amazingly good ! so i suppose thats a plus

Agreed! *Thank you for realizing that there are limitations to what you can (or should!) do yourself! *Keep us updated on the progress, we'll love to see pics and hear all about it once you get it done!!!
And, as I've said before...I know they cost a lot, but you're paying for more than just time and jewelry...you're paying for talent, skill and expertise.
:( i feel like a fool for even thinking about doing this one myself.
i went to see mark, and he said there was no way i could get it done t=due to shape of my ear. he also explained the difference between a "tansverse" and a "surface" piercin. they look similar but are totaly different :| ive forgot the ins and outs but anyway
thanks for talking me outsa htis one !! really !
illyria.: id never ever find a problem wwith the money, i dont like to consider it lol. suppose im feeling soprry for ma self cos im broke lol. twas stupid of me *to bring the issue up
