ive had a few piercings before n i ve jus got my first surface piercing on my belly an im told by friends that they grow out alot, but the piercer said thats only if you dont look after them like any other piercing. so can anyone tell me what the chances are of it growing out, im kinda paranoid. if it makes the diffrence the jewlery is the flexible plastic stuff, thanks

ALL surface piercings have a very good chance of migration and rejection. *This depends on the jewelry (yours is ok, though a surface barbell would be better), how well the piercing was done, and the placement on the body. *

Your piercer fed you a line of crap when he told you that it would only reject if you didn't take care of it. *I wouldn't suggest going back to him...EVER. *

A surface piercing on the stomach will have a high chance of rejection, due to the high amount of movement in the area.

It's possible to heal it, but it's going to take a lot of work, and you're going to need to take very good care of it, and at the first sign of migration, you should take it out.

What is the name of the piercer, and the name of the shop?
What kind of aftercare are you doing?

the only reason i went to this piercer is coz besides her there is only one other in town, grr, an she did it kinda wonky. after i got this one i decided to go to the city for any others. with aftercare ive been wiping it down with antiseptic everynight and give eat a ten min soak in warm salty water. i really hope this one stays coz i wanna get another on my lower back.

Antiseptic? *What sort?

It's absolutely vital that you not put anything on your piercings...you should only be washing your piercing twice a day with a mild soap, and doing sea salt soaks. *Any antiseptic solution (peroxide, alcohol, the stuff from crappy piercing booths, medical cleansers, neosporin, ad infinitum) will actually hurt your piercing more than helping it.

i got the antiseptic from the supermarket, its from the company called "band aid" who are most known for um band aids. does it have to be sea salt? ive been using a diffrent kind of salt (well i dont think its from the sea) i think its a table or cooking salt but it seems to be going ok. but if sea salt will help it stay more then ill get some right after work, which is where i am now, and very boring (EDIT: We do not allow profanity on these boards. Read the Forum rules before posting again. people wanting the crazy frog song)

Ack! *No, no table salt! *The stuff is iodized and is horrible for your piercing. *Definitely get some sea salt for your piercing.

And I assume someone will tell you to not use the antiseptic on account of it being too strong. *Assuming this is the case, I'm posting this now (yay, time zone differences) so you get this as early as possible. *As for soaps, use a glycerine-based, non-perfumed soap so you won't hurt your piercing. *I've been using antibacterial Soft Soap; some say that bar soaps have the potential for carrying bacteria as they sit there on the sink. *Others say this doesn't make a difference. *Either way, I'd already gotten a couple of bottles of the stuff, and all of the three piercings that I've used it on have been very happy with it.

An explanation why not to use tablesalt, as I've found it's fun to know these things: iodine is some kind of mineral that is vital to human survival but is needed only in the most miniscule amounts. *Thus (for whatever reason) it's put into US salt so people get their iodine. *In Britain they put it in their milk, so I guess if you've ever in Britain, it's not the table salt you shouldn't be doing soaks with, it's the milk... *So, either way, iodine is good for you but really terrible to your piercing, so don't use tablesalt.

Crazy frog song? *What's that?

thank you thank you thank you. ill take that advice, im assuming you can get it ground, otherwise ill have to use my teeth. i live in australia an i think the salt ive been using is no iodised stuffs, only coz i bought the io stuff by mistake once and saw pretty quikly that was no good. ok, ill go anti bacterial and the sea salt just in case the stuff that im using is no good or isnt as good, n sea salt sounds a big buncha more fancy. thanks again.

also i think it would be really cool *hint hint to whoever can* if there was a list made of what surface piercings last the longest in which leave the quickest, ive got my tounge belly n nipples done but they are all pretty simple to have n look after (though in a small town the word gay gets use alot, grr)

kinda accepting this is prolly (lil denial left)gunna grow out now. but when i had my tounge done it didnt swell for a day or two but when it did it hardly did, i sounded the same. so hopefully that means im a good healer an if i try again n follow after care to the letter, then itll heal round it an stay an be happy. unless being a good healer (if theres such a thing) means itll push my piercing out quicker. but im stubborn so maybe my body will be n just get over it, lol

There's no way to be able to make a list of what surface piercings last the longest...it all depends on each person's body, as well as placement and the way the person moves that body part, and all those kinds of things. *The rejection rate is different for everyone, and some people can manage to heal a surface piercing that almost nobody else can. *

Surface piercings are ALL tricky, and ALL have a high risk of rejection. *It's up to your body how long they last and if/when/how fast they reject.

Take Bird and I, for example... If you gave her and I the exact same surface piercing, same piercer, same jewelry, same placement, mine would grow out twice as fast as hers, if not faster. *Just because of the way our bodies handle the piercings and jewelry.
