I'm getting my first real tattoo done in August (after summer's over and i'm not tempted to go swimming or stay outdoors too long).
Anyhoo, I've noticed that on some people, their tattoos are raised and not as smooth as others.
Nobody in my family has ink, and most of my friends don't either...so I don't really have anyone else to ask.

Does anyone know what causes some tattoos to look raised and how I can avoid this possiblity?

Thanks a bunch.

If the tattoo is done too deeply, it will scar a bit and it will be raised. *Also if it is done too deeply, the fill *will "bleed" and look blurred. *This happened to me with my first tattoo.

A cousin of mine has one that's raised to the point that you can read it like braille....but then again, that was a prison tattoo, which probably accounts for that measure of severity.

My first one is just *barely* raised on one of the tips, but that also had to have been gone over about 4 times to get the silly ink to stay put.
