Hey y'all,
I wanted to know which ear piercings you guys/girls have had an easy time healing or taking care of, and which tend to give you trouble. I want something in the ear area pierced, but not the lobes (I figure it wouldn't be a good look for me). I'm not too up-to-date on ear piercings, since I hadn't considered them before, but now I'm kinda looking for one.
I'm considering a top helix piercing, or maybe a snug, inner conch, or whatever seems to go over easily. I don't want to have too much trouble with it since the school year is starting again, and don't want my ear's health to impact my academic health. The initial pain doesn't matter, just the aftercare, really.
Also, I've glossed over PP's site, and couldn't find this piece of jewelry: I've seen it on a dude's helix, it looks kind of like a tiny section of tube that looks like it fits or wraps over the outer helix, but it obviously has a shaft that connects the tube all the way around through your piercing. His kind of had little grooves or ridges around it. Anyone know what I'm talking about, or where to get one (obviously PMing if it's at another store)? If I could find one, I'd definitely punch a hole in my helix. Alright, thanks ahead of time for any of y'all's input!

Places that are hard to hit seem to have an easier time healing (traguses, conches, rooks, etc). *I've got a couple of upper helixes (one day to become an industrial when they're fully healed and I can change the jewelry) and got them done with PFTE barbells (no snagging rings with my hairbrush!) *For that matter, I also only sleep on the side that's not pierced. *Maybe it's luck, maybe it's my body liking piercings, but while cartilage in general takes a good while to heal, these have been an absolute peach for me. *The worst part (after the bleeding the first few days) has honestly been the itchiness.
More importantly - what do you want? *What do you look at and go, "Wow, I bet that would look fabulous on my ear!" *So long as you take good care of the piercing, you shouldn't have any trouble.

I've got my inner conch pierced, and that's still healing since May.
You've got to keep in mind that any cartilage piercing is not going to heal incredibly quickly, and that you should be prepared to do aftercare for quite some time.

I have an industrial done in my right ear and I got it done in March and it's pretty much healed. But I also accidentally slept on it in the beginning. (I forgot I had it and turned on it at night.) I've done sea salt soaks and kept it clean but it just takes a while.

Things are going to vary. For instance, read what bird said about her conch. Now mine? I got mine pierced and four months later I could comfortably sleep on it, tug on it, etc, and there wasn't a lick of pain or trouble from it. Now, agreed, cartilage takes a while to heal.
My helix on the other hand, was worse at 10 months than it was at 1 month... yes, that's possible. The first month it was barely swollen and didn't hurt, then it swelled up and hurt badly for MONTHS.
I'd recommend a conch over a helix, obviously. But, here is a non-biased reasons: the conch is less likely to get randomly bumped if you get it pierced with a barbell. Just look at the anatomy...
I also have a daith and it was easy to heal, because again, it's not very likely to get bumped.
I would definitely recommend getting a barbell over a ring, though. I find that rings get bumped too much and then the piercing gets irritated.

Cool. Thanks for the advice. I guess what I feel like doing are either rook, daith, or outer helix. The daith is looking good, and my body tends to heal quickly, so hopefully it'll be happily meeting a needle in the future.
What kind of jewelry usually goes into a daith piercing (in other words, what size/gauge barbell ring would y'all get?)? I think a barbell would be better. Anyway, thanks again.

A barbell is fine, and since it's an inner ear piercing, the gauge doesn't really matter- so pick whatever gauge you want. *16 is usually a good gauge, big enough to see, but not too big. *If you want to go bigger at 14, that's ok too. *
Keep in mind- HEALING TIME FOR ALL CARTILAGE PIERCINGS IS AT LEAST 6 MONTHS MINIMUM. *
Getting pierced with a small curved barbell in your daith will protect it from getting brushed or hit, and will protect it if you do sleep on it at night. *It will heal more quickly since it won't be getting hit at all. *However, even though it takes bloody forever to heal, that doesn't mean it will hurt or bother you that long. *
I've had my rooks done since March and they're still healing, but they haven't bothered me at all since I got them (other than when they went through the itchy stage). *They don't get hit, I can sleep on them without problems, and they're little angels, once I got h2ocean they don't make the bump anymore, and they're great!

Cool. Looks like it's time to make another appointment with the piercer. I think I'm set on a daith - don't see those too often where I'm from. Should be fun. Thanks for the advice, y'all.

Maybe I'm a bit late, but since I haven't seen a follow-up to this yet, I'm imaging that it might not be too late.
Daiths are quite fun and cute. I've got a curved barbell in mine, at 16ga, and it's sort of like my little secret piercing since it's quite easily overlooked. You can make it more visible with a ring, I would imagine, but I prefer barbells.
Happy piercing with yours.

Yeah. that's what I liked about it. It's pretty discreet and cool, but also original and not your average ear piercing (I've never seen anyone with one), so this looks cool. I think a ring in there might be just what the doctor ordered. I also need to post my other piercing pictures up, thanks for reminding me.
