View Full Version : nose piercing problems

I got my nose pierced in March 2004. *I eventually had to take it out because a huge red bump grew next to it. *It was sore to the touch and bled once in awhile (because I stupidly continued to pick at it). *I guess the piercing had some taken some trauma to it, from kissing my boyfriend. *But the bump went away shortly after removing the jewelry.

Anyway, I got my nose repierced a few months ago and things were fine. *Then, after four weeks, I *thought it was healed so I tried to change the screw. *Since I'm a moron, I couldn't get the screw out very well and putting the new one in hurt like a EDIT and bled. *So finally I resorted to putting the original screw back in. *I figured I needed to give it time to heal. *Well, two weeks went by...no problems. *I changed the screw again, but I put in a sterling silver screw which caused my nose to turn black in the hole. *So...changed to screw BACK to original AGAIN. **sigh*

Okay, so after all that (sorry this is so long - I'm a wordy person), a bump began to grow. *It's not huge and it doesn't hurt at all. *And my mom says it's not noticable, but I'm pretty self conscious about it. *I tried removing the jewelry again a few weeks ago but the hole bled and I nearly passed out from the pain trying to get the screw back in. *So now I don't know what to do. *So I guess my questions are this:

Will the bump ever go away without having to remove the jewelry?
How in the EDIT do you properly take out nose screws and put a new one in?

Thanks. *Sorry.

Your problem is changing the jewelry too soon. Although it may look and feel healed, it may not be. Quit changing out the jewelry! You are causing a lot of irritation by not allowing it to heal properly. Do some sea salt soaks to help with the healing.

You need to leave the jewelry in, don't touch it, and do some sea salt soaks on it for a few months. Do NOT mess with it, and do NOT pick at it. Two weeks is NOT enough time for any piercing to fully heal.

This morning I woke up with blood crusted around the jewelry and the bump got bigger. *I didn't do anything that I can think of to aggrivate it. *I love having my nose pierced but the bump is hideous and more noticable now. *I guess I'll try sea soaks for awhile, but I think I may just have to realize that I'm not meant to have my nose pierced... *sigh*

Thanks for the advise. *And sorry about the swearing...I did read the forum rules...I just forgot, I guess.

What's the original screw made of?

Good question. *I don't know. *I'm assuming titanium, but I don't really know.

I did a hot compress last night and the nostril doesn't hurt much today. *It hurt really badly yesterday. *The bump is still there, obviously, and I can't tell if it's changed. *Of course, I'm sure it'll take time to get rid of it, if I ever do...

I'm so disappointed. **sigh*

no piercing jewelry should be moved or removed before 2 months and some take longer, just remember this next time (if there is one)

what is the bump she's talking about? I've got the same thing coming in on the bottom of my eyebrow piercing. my bf had it on his too. Is that just part of the healing? I know after a bit it goes away, but what is it?

The bump she is talking about is The Bump, which is basically a way that your piercing shows you that it is angry with you.

It is NOT a part of healing. When you have it, your piercing is not healed, so don't mess with the piercing, but it's not a normal thing....it's a way that the piercing shows that it has been irritated (being pulled on, changed, having junk jewelry in, bad placement, etc.), and it does NOT always go away on it's own.

Check out the Knowledge Base for more info.

I guess that's the result of accidentally punching myself in the face the other day. (Pulling sheets up in bed, sheet stuck under wheel of frame, hand slipped off sheet, hand hit self in eyebrow) Yea, not good, had a slight black eye.

I've been using a hot compress on it a few times a day and it's looks like it's going down a little. *It's not quite as noticeable, nor is it as sore.

Once it is healed, how do I change the jewelry? *When I was changing it before, I pulled it downward a little and then twisted it out, but getting the jewelry back in hurt really badly. *It always bled and seemed like the hole shrank within five seconds. *I assumed I'd put it in the way I took it out, but it didn't seem to work that way. *Maybe I've been taking it out wrong? *I don't know.

Nose piercings seem more trouble than they're worth. *I've never had this many problems with any of my other piercings...
