My name is Cheryl and I live in southern Ohio. I'm 62 years old and just got my first piercing in 45 years! Been wanting the naval piercing for a long time and finally did it. Which leads me to my plea for help.
My piercing is about 5 weeks old and has never stopped being red since day 3. I've been washing with antibacterial soap. I've had a round of antibiotics, tried the warm sea salt compresses, the cool chamomile tea soak, still red. I'm beginning to think the bar is too short. I have a big belly and I think the bar needs to be longer. I really haven't had any other infection symptoms and last week my doctor said it wasn't infected. HELP!

To keep out unwanted spam messages, all new members must have their first 3 messages approved (vetted) by the moderators before they can post freely.

The forum has undergone some recent changes. Many were for the good, but it also introduced a bug. When an unvetted member posts to an existing discussion, it does not show up as other posts do. If a fully vetted member posts, the section they post in is highlighted and the thread list has a green dot next to the thread they post in. Also if you click on "new posts" link at the top of the page it will show up in the list. Unvetted members do not show at all. The only time an unvetted members post show is if they create a new thread and even then it isn't easy to find. PP is working on getting this fixed, but it may take some time.

If you post to the forum for help and you don't get a reply you are not being ignored. Please send a private message and include a thread link.

While I am glad you introduced yourself, the main discussion is your piercing so I have moved this to the appropriate place.

It's hard to say since the picture is out of focus, but I think I can see some excess bar sticking out. A slightly longer bar wouldn't hurt. The area is definitely irritated.

Antibacterial soap is a no no and is in the process of being removed from consumer products. OTC antibacterial ointments are not the best idea either. You may have an allergy to the metal if it's stainless steel (stainless steel has nickel in it). If you decide to get a longer bar, change to titanium one as well.
