Switched out ring too early

Hi! So I had a 14 gauge belly ring in, but it was causing an infection, and the barbell was sticking out way too much, which made the ring go up and down way too much, causing a sore on the top. I switched to a 16 gauge ring today, even though I have only had the piercing for a week, but the infection seems to be going away so far. Will my piercing start rejecting? What can I do to keep it in. Thanks!

Welcome to the Painful Pleasures (PP) community! Please take a moment to tell us a bit more about yourself in the Introduce Yourself area. Also, please read the Rules of the Forum at your convenience.

To keep out unwanted spam messages, all new members must have their first 3 messages approved (vetted) by the moderators before they can post freely.

The forum has undergone some recent changes. Many were for the good, but it also introduced a bug. When an unvetted member posts to an existing discussion, it does not show up as other posts do. If a fully vetted member posts, the section they post in is highlighted and the thread list has a green dot next to the thread they post in. Also if you click on "new posts" it will show up in the list. Unvetted members do not show at all. The only time an unvetted members post show is if they create a new thread and even then it's not very easy to find. PP is working on getting this fixed, but it may take some time.

If you post to the forum for help and you don't get a reply you are not being ignored. Please send a private message and include a thread link.

Due to your choice of wording I am a bit confused. First you say belly ring (captive bead ring I would imagine) and then its a barbell so which is it? If it's a barbell, is it a straight or bent/curved? Is one end larger than the other (which is common)?

If the only thing that's different is the gauge I don't understand why the new one doesn't stick out just as far.

Navel piercings do have a high rate of migration/rejection. The smaller the gauge, the more likely it is to happen (the dreaded cheese wire effect). The amount of incidental pressure on the piercing during the day will greatly influence your chances of it migrating/rejecting. Baby the piercing and is may do fine. A larger gauge would be more resistant to the problem.
